Topic : Going to the Hospital

Canary(tutor): Hello, how may I help you?

You: 닥터 스미스씨와 진료 예약을 잡고 싶은데요.

Canary(tutor): What would you like to see him for?

You: 으슬으슬 추운 것이 아무래도 독감에 걸린 것 같아요.

Canary(tutor): Dr. Smith has openings next week. Are you free on Monday or Tuesday?

You: 전 화요일 오후가 괜찮겠네요.

Canary(tutor): We will schedule you for next week Tuesday at 3pm.

 

-----Tuesday afternoon------

You: 안녕하세요, 선생님.

Dr. Smith(tutor): Hello. What brings you here today?

You: 으슬으슬 춥고 열이 조금 있고요. 두통도 있는 것이 아무래도 감기에 걸린 게 아닌가 해서요.

Dr. Smith(tutor): Let's measure your temperature. Ah, you have a mild fever. You should wear more clothes to keep warm. It is very easy to catch a cold these days.

You : 어제 밤 얇은 옷을 입고 산책한 것이 문제였나봐요.

Dr. Smith(tutor): Maybe. Drink warm water often and wear many layers of clothes even if it makes you a bit hot. When did you start having symptoms?

You: 머리가 아픈 것은 3일 정도 됐고요. 지금도 조금 두통이 있네요.

Dr. Smith(tutor): You must have a cold. I will prescribe you some pain medication for your headache.

You: 감사합니다. 선생님.

You : 안녕하세요. 약을 좀 지으려고 하는데요.

Pharmacist(Tutor) : May I see your prescription, please?

You : 여기 있습니다. 두통을 위한 진통제라고 들었습니다.

Pharmacist(Tutor) : Why, it is. Wait just a second. Here it is.

You : 감사합니다. 혹시 제가 주의해야 할 다른 사항이 있을까요?

Pharmacist(Tutor) : Yes. You have to take this 30 minutes after every meal.

You : 30분이요? 네 알겠습니다. 혹시 다른 약과 함께 먹어도 되나요?

  • Appointment : An appointment basically means an arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place.

  • Aching : Aching means to suffer from a continuous dull pain.

  • Schedule : Schedule is a plan for carrying out a process or procedure, giving lists of intended events and time.

  • Flu shot : Flu shot is a vaccine which provides immunity to a variety of influenza viruses and is updated and recommended annually.

  • Check up : A check up is an examination to see if everything is in order or not.

  • Injured : A person is injured, if he suffers from physical harm or damage to a part of his body.

 이제는 우리에게도 익숙한 처방전. 여러분은 처방전 없이 약국에서 약을 조제할 수 있던 때를 기억하시나요? 의약분업으로 말이 많았던 예전과는 달리 요즘은 처방전이 있어야 약을 지을 수 있는 것이 당연시 여겨지는데요. 최근에는 편의점 같은 곳에서 진통제와 같은 간단한 약을 살 수 있는 환경도 익숙해져 가는 것 같습니다. 슈퍼와 같은 곳에서 파는 감기약, 진통제. 여러분은 슈퍼나 편의점 같은 곳에서 약을 사본 일이 있나요? 여러분은 약을 편하게 살 수 있는 환경을 긍정적으로 보시나요? 약을 남용할 수 있다고 부정적으로 보시나요? 튜터의 생각은 어떠할까요? 튜터가 경험하거나 살았던 나라에서는 약을 어떻게 살 수 있을까요? 튜터와 이야기를 나눠보세요.

아래의 표현들을 사용해서 문장을 만들어봅시다.

이제 완전히 가을이 온 것 같습니다. 단풍이 물든 길에서는 은행 냄새가 나기도 하고, 쌀쌀한 바람에 기분이 좋기도 하지만 마음에 허해지기도 하는 것 같습니다. 올해는 유독 독감이 심하게 오는 것 같습니다. 안 그래도 마음이 찬 데 가장 외롭고 서러울 때는 바로 아플 때가 아닐까요? 그런데 내가 사는 곳이 외국이라 아픈데 아프다고 말도 못하고 혼자 끙끙대야 한다면? 생각만해도 서러움이 복받치네요. 오늘은 이런 일을 예방하기 위해 병원에서 일어날 수 있는 대화를 튜터와 나눠볼까요?

Recreational use of prescription drugs is a serious problem with teens and young adults. National studies show that a teen is more likely to have abused a prescription drug than an illegal street drug.

 

Many teens think prescription drugs are safe because they were prescribed by a doctor. But taking them for nonmedical use to get high or “self-medicate” can be just as dangerous and addictive as taking illegal street drugs.

 

There are very serious health risks in taking prescription drugs. This is why they are taken only under the care of a doctor. And even then, they have to be closely monitored to avoid addiction or other problems.

 

Many pills look the same. It is extremely dangerous to take any pill that you are uncertain about or was not prescribed for you. People can also have different reactions to drugs due to the differences in each person’s body chemistry. A drug that was okay for one person could be very risky, even fatal, for someone else.

 

Prescription drugs are only safe for the individuals who actually have the prescriptions for them and no one else.
